Seaside Half Marathon Weekend!

Since I'm on vacation, no new recipe this week (sorry!).
Our group got up early for a slow 3 mile shakeout run around Watercolor & I was so happy we had a big group representing Nashville & the BBC!
Then it was of course, time to eat at Another Broken Egg. I love their coffee cups! I had the steel cut oats, pretty boring, but they were good!
We all got ready & walked over to the square to get our packets. A booth at the expo had free mimosas, um, BEST ever expo!
We passed by the cutest church in the square too! (giving you a little view of some of their main square)
A few of us hit up Happy Hour at Great Southern Cafe for their flavored mojitos! I had the peach, so refreshing!
Later that night, we had a reservation for 22 of us & chose Acme Ice House. They weren't really prepared for our group, but it was pretty good anyway! Seth had the shrimp & grits w/ mac n' cheese & I had the pork chop w/ grits & collard greens. (sorry the lighting wasn't that great).
Sunday, it was up early for the 7 am half marathon. A brisk 42 in the morning, perfect running weather! Logistics to this race were SO easy. We walked/jogged up to the starting line (about 8 minutes) and then were toward the front of the start. Seth gave me a little pre race good luck :)
And then we were off! My friend Jenn paced me the entire way (she also helped lead me to a PR in December at St. Jude). She's so talented & so great at pacing. We were very consistent the entire way hitting about 8:35-8:38 for the first few miles, then about 8:30-8:35 in the middle (we did have one 8:20 going downhill), and then around mile 10 we picked it up to about 8:15, then slowed to about 8:20, then around 8:10 at the very end. The race is a very nice out & back, so it was so great to see all of my friends ahead of me & that were behind me because we could all cheer each other on. It's flat until about mile 4 & then you have gentle rolling hills until you turn around & come back around mile 10. The last 3 are flat & a straight shot back to the main square. On the way back, the sun is facing you, so it gets warmer, I think it got up to around 55ish. At the end you get a very nice Vera Bradley bag, I chose pink & Seth got blue (ha!). Overall, I felt really good during the race until about mile 10. I struggled a bit from then on, picking it up between 10-11, then slowing down between 11-12, then picking it up again at 12 until the end. I was pretty emotional at the end from fatigue & happiness! This was my goal race for the spring and I took off about 4 1/2 minutes from St. Jude in December! I'm so grateful to my friend Jenn & my friend Roy (who also ran with us until about mile 9). They were amazing motivators & are such strong runners that I was blessed enough they didn't care about PR'ing themselves & were gracious enough to pace me!

I love these pics, they make my heart so happy! Thank you again Jenn!

We all showered & then it was TIME TO EAT!!! We drove to Rosemary Beach to grab drinks and food. I had their grouper sandwich, fries, & a nice cold glass of sauvignon blanc! (I had also eaten right after the race, coffee & an egg, bacon, & cheese english muffin sandwich). We then did some shopping & walked over to see the beach there. It was stunning!

I hope you ALL had a great weekend & great races if you were racing!

I want to give a shout out to my girl, Heather Kralj, who ran the Tokyo World Marathon & PR'd with a 3:19!!! Also, to my friend's Christi Beth who placed 2nd in her age group with a 1:36 and Bob who placed 3rd in his age group! My other friend Jen PR'd w/ a 1:39, down from 1:42. So happy for all of these fasties!!

Now it's off to Siesta Key, FL for the rest of the week!!

Vacation Time!!

Wednesday morning, my friend Jen & I rocked it out spinning at Krank's 6 am class & then revived ourselves with smoothies at Juice Bar Green Hills. We leave for vacation on Friday, so I had lots to get done over the next two days. Is it bad if one of my bags is full of only workout gear? #runnerproblems

Thursday,  I met up with our Brentwood Breakfast Club for a run. We covered 8 miles together! What a great way to start my mornings even when it's 35 degrees! Total time was 9:05 pace!
It's always harder to drink water while running in the winter, but I carry a handheld with me so I am reminded to take some swigs throughout the run. I cannot recommend these enough. They really save me when humidity hits. I have two different sizes for shorter versus longer runs. Check them out on Amazon here and here for some examples!
I then went for a mani/pedi at Nail Bar to get set for the next 10 days of vacation in FL!! I chose Cajun Shrimp for my color from OPI!
My friend Lane's fiancee & sister opened up a Potbelly in the Gulch. I cannot tell you how happy I am to have this back in my life. I'm obsessed with their chickpea veggie salad & non-fat vinegarette dressing!
Friday we were up early to head off to Seaside, FL. I finally tried the butterscotch latte from Starbucks and it was well worth the wait. My first sip was not delicious, I think it needed to be stirred more, but as I got about half way through I tasted the butterscotch and it was AMAZING!! I highly recommend this even though I know it's a lot of calories. Maybe try it when you're ready for a splurge or if you're worried about calories/sugar! This is what happens when I say my name is Tracy.
We arrived in FL & immediately went to Great Southern Cafe for lunch. We had drinks at the bar while waiting for our table.
And then I had the fish of the day w/ 2 sides & hush puppies. Seth had the grits dish, which they said was one of their most popular dishes.
We then hit the beach because we hadn't seen sand in I don't know how long!

The rest of our group arrived later that day & we all grabbed dinner & drinks together!
I had the BEST greek pizza I've ever had in my life at a Wine Bar in Watercolor, FL. It's so cute & this meal was amazing!
We are gearing up for a half marathon on Sunday, so I will have a race recap & the rest of our weekend on Monday!

Have a great weekend!

Mid-Week Wrap Up!

Hope you're week has been productive so far!

I got up early on Monday to attend Barry Bootcamp's arms & abs class. It was tough, but a lot of fun & very motivating! I am leaving for vacation on Friday, so I spent time after work packing. I am looking forward to some beach time with my friends & family. My neighbor, Collette & I decided to drink some wine & hang out given Seth is out of town again (we also did this Tuesday night too). The wine she had was from the Smoky Mountains, so of course I was excited to try it! It was from Apple Barn Winery & was a Muscadine. It's a pretty sweet wine, but I had it after dinner, so gave me a little dessert taste!
Tuesday Track Prep the night before!
It was our second speed session workout for FF & we had the dreaded 800's. Based off my time trial, my goal was 3:28 for the 800s & we were to do between 6-8 of them. Actual splits were: 3:29, 3:27, 3:28, 3:28, 3:27, 3:27. This is such a tough workout & kicks my butt, but I felt strong! Total mileage - 7.75. Photo credit (Jennifer & Jason). I steal all of my friend Jennifer's photos of the groups so we don't have to take more than one!
Then it was time for a quick smoothie & off to work!
Another wine, Seth & I tried this weekend was a Pinot Noir from Monterey County called Montoya. It was a 2013 & suuuuuper smooth. We chilled it & let it breathe for awhile before tasting & once it opened up it was VERY tasty. It retails for about $14. Great example of a CA Pinot!

Do you do any speedwork during the week?!

Do you prefer red or white wine?!

Cheesey Chicken Broccoli & Rice!

Is it Monday again already? Hope everyone had a nice weekend!
Saturday was another early morning for a 3 hour trail run. I started off at a slower pace than the week before, but felt good at the end! It was my first experience doing the red, white, & blue trails together!
That night I tried out City House w/ some friends. I started off with the cab franc & chard salad (everyone got this salad!). Both were very good. My friend Jen & I shared the belly ham pizza & the Cavatelli, Lamb, Chickpeas, Kale, Garlic, Parm pasta dish. They were both really tasty. I polished my meal off w/ the pecan pie, buttermilk ice cream dessert!
Sunday morning I met up with 3 friends for a 2 hour trail run at Percy Warner. It was rainy & the trails were so muddy that I ended up falling on my butt & getting a huge mud spot, ugh!

That afternoon, I stood in for a friend to help model some of the new spring looks for Fleet Feet & afterward we grabbed drinks & apps at Butchertown Hall. I highly recommend this place! I've had a great meal, app, & drink everytime I've gone.
Then it was home to make my new dish! I chose something easy & quick since I didn't get home until 5 pm. It was a One-Pan Cheesey Chicken Broccoli & Rice dish. I got the recipe Here.

Ingredients:
- 3  tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 medium yellow onion, diced finely
- 1 lb bonessless skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite size pieces
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1 tsp salt & pepper
- 2 1/2 c broccoli florets, cut into bite size pieces
- 2 1/2 c low-sodium chicken broth
- 2 c shredded cheddar

Instructions:
- In a large skillet, saute onions in two tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.
- Season chicken pieces with salt & pepper
- Once onions soften, increase the heat to medium high & add chicken
- Brown the chicken pieces & add the garlic. Cook for about 1 minute more.
- Push the chicken to one side of the pan & add an additional tablespoon of olive oil to the other side
- Add the uncooked rice into the olive oil & sautee for a few minutes
- Add the chicken broth to the pan & bring the mixture to a boil.
- Lower heat to a simmer & cover the pan w/ a lid
- Cook chicken & rice mixture for 12 minutes.
- Sprinkle the broccoli evenly over the chicken & rice mixture and stir to combine.
- Continue to cook covered another 8 minutes on low, or until broccoli and rice are both tender.
- Remove from heat & stir in half cup of cheese
- Sprinkle remaining cheese on top & cover w/ lid, letting it sit for 1-2 minutes more or until cheese has melted

And that now brings us to Monday once again........

A New Restaurant & Weekly Things

It was the same old stuff on Wednesday for me. Attended the 6 am Krank spin & got my smoothie. I got a pic of the inside of the studio & it's dark during the class with music blasting. I love it because then no one can see how much I am sweating & my facial expressions when I'm struggling!
I was on puppy duty for my neighbor & I, so Oliver got some play time with his black lab friend, Chief. They love playing together & it's nice we are on the same floor!

Thursday morning I met up with friends for early miles before the breakfast club run. We had a "field trip" (what we say when we leave the Brentwood area) & went to Pinewod Social to try out their breakfast. I had the crema cuban coffee & avocado toast & I highly recommend both!!!

I had a work dinner that night and we checked out a new restaurant, Trattoria A just outside of downtown Franklin. It's a BYOW (Bring your Own Wine) & they don't serve alcohol on their menu. When we walked up it looked so cute & as you can see it's very small. They are on Opentable, but you can visit their website for reservations here.

We started off with their caprese salad & it tasted really fresh. It was a very sizeable appetizer & could feed 4 - 5 people. It comes with green, yellow, & red tomatoes. I had the straw & hay pasta dish below on the left & my boss had the Bambolloti dish. I liked them both, but preferred my dish with the creamier sauce.
We finished off with three of their desserts (tiramasu, gelato & a pudding). I had been eyeing the buttersotch pudding with salted caramel since we sat down & it was worth the wait!
And of course it was National Drink Wine Day so we did our part to celebrate with the bottles below!
Shot of their menu below:
And then it was FRIYAY!!!
I skipped my workout on Friday & took a rest day as I was exhausted & needed to rest a bit more. I took Oliver to daycare for his haircut & it looked MUCH better! Handsome little fellow!
I spent last night staying in, enjoying some veggie pizza (can't eat meat due to Lent) & wine while resting up for my training run tomorrow!

Everyone have a great rest of the weekend!!!
